FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do your employees speak English?

Yes, our all of our employees speak English, and all of our activities are conducted in English.  Many of our employees also speak French and we regularly care for some French-speaking residents as well.  Our mission is primarily to serve the English-speaking community.

Do you have a waiting list?

At times, we may have a waiting list.  The location, type of room available and our capacity to effectively deliver good nursing care will affect the type of applicant who can be accepted for any given room.  Therefore applicants will not necessarily be accepted on a first come, first served basis even when a room is available.  Please contact us directly for current information.  You may add your name to our list at any time, even if you feel it will be several months or years until you will need our services.  There is no cost to add your name to our list, and no obligation to accept when a room becomes available.

Do you allow smoking in your facility?

No, smoking is not permitted in the facility nor within 9 metres of any entrance.

Do I have to be Christian or a member of a particular church to be admitted?

No.  Although we are a Christian ministry, we welcome residents of all backgrounds.  We do offer programming which is particularly geared to Christians, and residents are free to participate in this programming if they choose.  All activities in the homes are designed to be consistent with the Christian faith.  We desire to share our faith with you, but we respect your faith as well.

Do I have to make a large donation to be admitted?

No.  Although we are a charity and donations support much of what we do, this is not a consideration in our decision as to whom we admit to the homes.

Will I have to move out if I get sick?

No, we can care for almost all conditions and it is our desire that you remain “at home with us” as long as you wish.  With 24/7 nursing care and doctors on call, we want you to be healthy and comfortable, and normally we can provide the care you need, including paliative care.  Hospitals are nearby and ambulance service is available should it be required.

What is included in your rates?

All of the basic essentials are included in the monthly fee you will be charged.  This includes your room, all meals, snacks, nursing care, baths, special activities, laundry, housekeeping, utilities, maintenance and administration.  An additional charge is made to your account for such consumable items as incontinent supplies, medical and nursing supplies (oxygen tanks, prescription medications, prescribed creams or lotions, medical dressing materials and the like), transportation, sitters (after consultation with the family), and similar items.

Are you subsidized by the Quebec Government?

No, we are a private, Christian charity.  All of our funding comes from resident fees and donations.  However, residents are usually eligible for the tax credit respecting home support services for seniors, which is paid by the government directly to the resident.  Currently, this tax credit is a maximum of $6,480.00 per year.

What if I can’t afford it?

As a Christian charity, it is our desire to provide excellent care for those who may not be able to afford the full cost of our services.  We will assist you in seeking government support, and may be able to provide direct financial assistance in cases of need.  If you fear running out of funds, we can provide assurance that we will continue to care for you.  Contact us directly for further information.

What is included in the rooms?

In each room, we provide a bathroom (private or shared) with sink and toilet, a closet, a call bell to pull in case of an emergency, sheets (cotton or flannelette), blankets, washcloths and towels.  With the exception of hospital beds for infirmary care patients, residents are responsible for their personal bed, bedspread, dresser, furnishings and equipment.  You are responsible for your own toiletries and specialized medical equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs, oxygen concentrator/tanks, electric lift chairs, etc., and the repairs and maintenance of these items.  At most times, we have some of this furniture and equipment available which has been donated by other families and we can loan it to you at no cost.  Where this is not possible, it is the resident’s responsibility to provide it.

How do I get more information?

You can get more information by calling either of the homes.  Upon request, we will send you a Resident’s Manual with complete information and application forms, or they may be downloaded from this site.  We would be happy to arrange for a tour and to answer any further questions you may have.  We look forward to hearing from you…
